Gustave Flaubert on Writing

From 5 October New Yorker Magazine, p. 67:
He reminds me of Flaubert, another classicist in a sentimental age, who wrote to a friend on Christmas Day, 1876, "Be well-ordered in your life, and as ordinary as a bourgeois, in order to be violent and original in your work."
